The Literacy Lubbock Board of Directors has primary legal responsibility for governance – the exercise and assignment of power and authority. The Board reserves to itself organizational oversight and policy setting, and delegates to the chief executive responsibility for managing operations and resources. The Literacy Lubbock Board is not just an outside examiner, but also a powerful force supporting the organization.


Literacy Lubbock Board Responsibilities

    • Determine the organization’s mission and purpose.
    • Select the chief executive.
    • Support the chief executive and assess his or her performance.
    • Ensure effective organizational planning.
    • Ensure adequate resources/raise money.
    • Exercise fiduciary responsibility and oversight.
    • Determine, monitor, and strengthen the organization’s programs and services.
    • Enhance the organization’s public standing.
    • Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability.
    • Recruit and orient new board members and assess board performance.
