Lynda Dutton, Executive Director, has a B.S. in Education from Texas Tech University and a Masters in Education from Texas Tech, with an additional twenty-four graduate hours in Counseling Education. Lynda serves as a Board Member of the Board of Directors of Literacy Texas, the state-wide parent organization, and is Chair of the Training Committee for Literacy Texas. Lynda serves in a select Literacy Texas group, the Literacy Coalition Summit. Lynda has been selected to serve as Secretary of the United Way Association Meetings for the year 2010. Implements the strategic goals and objectives of the organization; effectively manages human resources of the organization, oversees fundraising, planning and implementation, including the submission of grants and proposals and the administration of fundraising records and documentation; recommends a yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages the organization’s resources within those budget guidelines; oversees the design, marketing, promotion, and delivery and quality of the organization’s programs; performs other duties as needed. Lynda has been employed with Literacy Lubbock since May of 2007.

Nyla Nyla Wesner, Director of Volunteer Programs, has a B.R.E. from North Texas Baptist College and a Certificate of Completion in Spanish from the Intensive Missionary Training Program at Mt. Hebron Bible Baptist Institute in Monterrey, Mexico. She has more than 20 years of classroom experience as a teacher in both the United States and as a missionary in Mexico. She is responsible for recruiting volunteers to work in all literacy programs, and to assign students to the appropriate tutors. She also maintains records and statistical reporting for all students, volunteers and hired teachers; evaluates curriculum for appropriateness; conducts tutor training; and plans volunteer appreciation events. Nyla has been employed with Literacy Lubbock since August 2010.

Katie Bourland, Development & Resource Manager, has an Associate degree in Accounting from South Plains College. Maintains all bookkeeping records and is responsible for all payroll, cash disbursement, and deposit transactions; performs all necessary administrative duties within the office, including, but not limited to: answering the telephone, managing an inventory of office and program supplies, and acting as a communication liaison between other staff members and the Board; inputs information into the student and volunteer database, including address updates, new prospect/donor information, call report data, etc; acts as a fundraising coordinator, working closely with the Executive Director and Assistant Director in team planning, facilitating and record keeping for fundraising programs; manages and updates necessary paperwork, mailing lists, and donor lists; prepares donor correspondence including gift acknowledgments; assists with planning and logistics of fundraising events; assists with planning and logistics of media relations; performs other duties as needed. Katie has been employed with Literacy Lubbock since March of 2008. She began her work with Literacy Lubbock as a South Plains College Intern from September to December of 2007.

gloria Gloria Wills, Director of Dyslexia Programs, is an Academic Language Therapist. She trains tutors in the Barton Reading and Spelling Program. That program is a multisensory, phonics based program that succeeds in helping people learn to read that have never been successful before. She has twenty-seven years of experience in the field of learning disabilities. Gloria carefully trains and pairs Literacy Lubbock volunteer tutors with learners who have registered with Literacy Lubbock requesting to improve their reading ability and skills, and to increase their vocabulary and raise their reading level. Gloria coordinates and monitors the academic progress of the learners and trains the volunteers before initiating each sequential book as the student progresses. Gloria has been a part-time employee with Literacy Lubbock since August of 2005.
joan Joan Sears, Director of English as a Second Language Programs, has a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Spanish from Texas Tech University with an emphasis on Linguistics. She was Director and Assistant Director of the Intensive English Program at Texas Tech University for nineteen years. She supervises and coordinates all English as a Second Language Programs. Joan additionally conducts an Intermediate Level ESL Class and teaches within a partnership conducting a beginning level ESL Class. Joan has been a part-time employee with Literacy Lubbock since 2007.
