What is Literacy Lubbock’s ABE Program?

Basically, it’s a chance to reclaim independence.

Our ABE program teaches students how to read and write from the very beginning, and is perfect for adults who never learned how. To do that, Literacy Lubbock provides dedicated 1-to-1 tutors who are paired with the learner, all so they can learn at the pace that best suites them. We even have specialized curriculum for those with or without dyslexic tendencies, to ensure their individual needs are best met. Additionally, we offer tutoring in basic math too, should a student want or need it.

In today’s world, reading is necessary for independence. Just think about all the things you read in a day: social media, articles, emails, text message, doctor’s instructions, recipes, work forms, event posters, roadway signs—the list just keeps going. Learning how to read is more than just academic at this point, it’s necessary skill that should be available to everyone and anyone who wants it.

How It Works:

You or a loved one fill out the interest form. You can fill it out online or by coming into our main office to fill it out in person.

2.

Wait for a Literacy Lubbock staff member to reach out. During this phase, we’ll gather more information about the nature of the tutoring and how we can best help you reach your

Get connected with a tutor. We’ll try to find the best tutor, someone suited to your specific needs.

4.

Set your schedule. You and your tutor will decide upon this yourselves. And once that’s been decided, you’re good to go!
