GED Test Preparation
What is Literacy Lubbock’s GED Program?
Basically, it’s a second chance to reach your dreams.
Our GED program enables our students to pass the 4 subjects of the GED test. To do that, Literacy Lubbock provides classes, tutors, learning materials, and other support to adults looking to get their GEDs. Essentially, we set our students up for success so they can knock it out of the park!
With a GED, students can attend college or vocational school, negotiate for a higher salary, or even find a better job with more benefits.
Financial stability, growth, and more opportunities await those with a GED. And we’re here to offer free classes, tutors, and resources to help you get it! We want you to succeed. And we want you to feel confident in yourself. Getting a GED can help you do both!

How It Works:
1.
Fill out the enrollment form. You can fill it out online or by coming into our main office to fill it out in person.
2.
Check out the schedule. A copy of the schedule will be automatically sent to the email you used to enroll. If you don’t receive it or need a new one, just let us know.
3.
Start attending classes. You’re able to select any classes on the schedule. You can even go to multiple classes or move to a new class.
4.
Begin studying. When you feel ready, take the subject test. Repeat this step until you pass all 4 subject tests (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts). Once you’ve passed all 4, then congratulations! you’ve earned your GED!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
That question has a few different answers.
Literacy Lubbock does not charge for classes! However, the GED test does charge for testers to sit for the actual test, and that cost changes by state.
For Texas, it’s $36.25 per subject—and you do take each subject individually. There are 4 subjects, for a total of $145.00.
If you fail a subject test and retake it, the cost of the retake is $16.25. But you need to be within the retest policy to get the cheaper price. Check GED.com for the most current retest policy.
GED also offers an online GED test that students can take at home. For students in Texas wishing to take the online test, it's $42.25 per subject, or $169.00 for all four subjects. Testers must also pass a GED Ready Practice Test beforehand, which are $7.00 per subject and $28 for all 4. This brings the total cost up to $197.00.
Enrollment in Literacy Lubbock's GED program includes free GED vouchers for the practice tests.

GED test takers need to be at least 18 years old to be eligible for the test. Other requirements include:
Must be a Texas resident
Must not be enrolled in an accredited high school
Must not have an accredited high school diploma
Have a valid, government-issued photo ID
16-year-olds and 17-year-olds may be eligible to take the GED, but the TEA has stricter guidelines for them, including a parent/guardian's permission and documentation showing withdrawal from the public school system. Those requirements are more detailed, so please check in with the TEA first about eligibility before pursuing that as a option for 16 or 17-year-olds.
You can check the most current TEA (Texas Education Agency) GED Testing Requirements by visiting their website.

The GED Test is designed to ensure all students who pass have a general understanding of ideas and concepts taught in high school. Anyone can pass it, so long as they prepare!
Even if you haven't been in school for a while or didn't like school, you can still pass the test! Many of our students score better on their first tests than they think they will, and you can too if you give it a try!
